Aug 19 - "Telling Their Stories: The Lingering Legacy of the Katrina Photographs," an exhibit of 53 iconic shots of the Gulf Coast disaster, taken by professional photojournalists, opens tonight at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans. The exhibit, which runs through September 19, includes the work of extreme-weather photographer Jim Reed.
Jim's image of Hurricane Katrina approaching the southern Mississippi coastline during astronomincal twilight on August 28, is one of the photographs chosen by curator David Houston for the exhibit.
"Look at the deep blue bands of cloud that blanket Jim Reed's photo of the Gulfport, MIssissippi, beach, just hours before Katrina roared ashore. The cool, calming, unbroken, horizontal seascape is a masterpiece of foreboding, considering the cruel storm aproaching." -- Doug MacCash, art critic, The Times-Picayune.
The exhibit includes the work of 35 photographers chosen from submissions made from all over the world. To learn more about the exhibit, please click here.
