The coastline of Gulfport, Mississippi was obliterated by the highest storm surge ever recorded in the United States as Hurricane Katrina made landfall on August 29, 2005. An astonishing 27.8 feet before it was all over. This bested the previous U.S. record of 22.8 feet during 1969's Hurricane Camille. #JRPHUCC022
